Assignment Design in the Age of AI √ §
Strategies to Promote Critical Thinking and Deep Learning
Location

Date & Time
September 12, 2023, 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
Description
Since the debut of ChatGPT last November, the use of AI generative
tools has proliferated across academia. Students are using these tools
in a variety of ways to support their learning and, in some cases, to
circumvent instructors’ intentions for how they should complete
assignments. How can we design assignments that help students learn to
use AI productively and ethically? Or how can we redesign existing
assignments to be more AI-resistant? In this session, we will consider
how to address AI tools while maintaining the focus on best practices in
creating assignments that engage students in deep learning and
demonstration of mastery of course learning outcomes.
There will be two sessions, September 6 in person with lunch provided and September 12 online via WebEx. Please register for ONE session only. Only one session can count toward the ALIT or INNOVATE Certificate programs.
Please click “Going Virtually” below to reserve your seat for this
session, and we will send you a Google calendar invitation with a WebEx
link one hour before the session. If you register less than an hour
before the session, you will receive the WebEx link when you register.
Please email fdc@umbc.edu
if you have any questions. If you have registered and find that you can
no longer attend, please kindly release your spot so that others may
attend.
