Participants in this FLC, which met during AY 2024-25, adopted a variety of means of inquiry to deepen their understanding of the diverse backgrounds, experiences, and needs of student groups that comprise the UMBC student body, and considered how this knowledge might influence what and how they teach. The specific identities, perspectives, and experiences they chose to focus on were determined by group consensus, such as Generation Z, neurodivergent, LGBTQ+, non-native English-speaking, non-traditional aged, immigrant and international, and/or veteran students. Ultimately, they explored innovative pedagogical approaches and inclusive teaching strategies to adopt toward cultivating a more empathetic, inclusive learning environment that empowers students from all walks of life to thrive and excel.
